Martin Heidegger was the most important and influential philosopher in the continental tradition in the 20th century. Being and Time, first published in , was his magnum opus. There is no way of understanding what took place in continental philosophy after Heidegger without coming to terms with Being and Time.
Being and Time German : Sein und Zeit is the magnum opus of German philosopher Martin Heidegger and a key document of existentialism. Being and Time had a notable impact on subsequent philosophy, literary theory and many other fields. Though controversial, its stature in intellectual history has been favorably compared with several works by Kant and Hegel. Heidegger maintains that philosophers have misunderstood the concept of Being since Plato, misapplying it solely in the analysis of particular beings. The book attempts to revive ontology through an analysis of Dasein , or "being-in-the-world.

There has been much debate over the relationship of Heidegger's philosophy—in particular his book Being and Time —to his practical involvement with National Socialism. Yet the question has never been addressed through a comparison of Being and Time with other texts on history and politics written at the time. Johannes Fritsche does this, providing a detailed interpretation of the relevant passages in Being and Time —especially sections on fate, community, and society. Fritsche concludes that Being and Time is a brilliant summary of right-wing politics in general, which proposes the destruction of liberal society in order to regenerate an idealized community. In addition, Heidegger rejects positions on the right, such as Scheler's, that enabled their authors to distance themselves from the most extreme political rightists, and thus he paves the way for National Socialism. Being and Time , Fritsche demonstrates, must be seen as a clear case for the National Socialists and their project of revitalization of the Volksgemeinschaft , the community of the people.

The Concept of Time presents Heidegger's so-called Dilthey review, widely considered the first draft of his celebrated masterpiece, Being and Time. He agrees with them that historicity must be at the centre of the new philosophy to come. However, he also argues for an ontological approach to history.
Founder of existentialism , Heidegger wanted above all to establish an ontology, that is to say, to clarify the question of being. His subjective approach to the concept being and thinking are the same, he said, citing Parmenides leads him to assert that being rooted in time, meaning the human ability to project itself. It approaches language as beyond a mere communication tool, since the instrumental reason has led human beings to an unauthentic way or mode of being. Language, taken in an essential and primordial way, is constitutive of the historical and finite Dasein , as opposed to a logical-scientific propositional theory of language. Our aim here is to understand in which sense Heidegger's hermeneutics is a kind of interpretation that is considered a primary act of understanding by means of a fundamental ontology.
